Time to Pack!

Posted by mommaf8 on Dec 1st, 2008

Tomorrow is the first of 4 days that we have packers coming. They are to pack us up for our move to Alaska! I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to seperate the things we’re keeping out to use during the 27 days we’ll still be in the house. Stuff like sleeping bags, pillows, suitcases with enough clothes til our belongings get to us in AK.

I’ve thoughts racing thru my mind like “Have I remembered everything?” or “Have I saved out enough? Too much?” While I’ve been doing this for the past 29 years (WOW! I AM related to the dinosaurs as the boys keep insisting! Geesh! Never thought I’d be able to write THAT!) this time there are none of the older girls to help me. It’s just me, my 12 yo son, 09 yo son, & 06 yo daughter! And although they ARE helping, at time it’s kinda like trying to lasso cats! :)

Ah well, that’s when I need to remember that God is in control, NOT me…right? RIGHT!

Anyhow, I’ll have photo of our progress tomorrow! I am warning you, though, that it’s NOT gonna be a pretty site! :P

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 28th, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We spent T-Day at the home of some dear friends. Dinner was FABULOUS! All I had to make was 2 loaves of Cranberry bread, 2  loaves of Sicilian bread, & Steven made crab stuffed mushrooms! :)

Oh, & it was a false alarm the other night! My grandson decided to stay INSIDE for a little bit longer. I will keep you posted! :)

God bless everyone!

Holiday Preparation…

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 25th, 2008

The kids & I went to an event today sponsored by the housing office. They made name tags for Thanksgiving dinner & a cornacopia for the center of the table. (That we’re still working on!)

Then we walked to the chapel where they signed up for the Christmas pagent. Steven is one of 2 narrators, Seth is Joseph, & Moira is to be an angel! (HER choice!)

Upon arriving home, I received a phone call from our 2nd eldest daughter, Theresa, informing me that our eldest, Kelly, is in labor! She is having a boy (Justin Braden) & so we’ll be doing the waiting game to see when he makes his appearance. Thankfully, our 3rd daughter, Aubrey is there with her. Kelly’s husband is in Iraq.

If you’ve made it all the way to here, thank you! :) I now have a special request. All those who read this, please pray for Kelly’s labor to be swift, painless (or close as it can be!), & safe. That both mom & baby come thru strong & happy! Thank you!

God bless!

Outdoor Time

Today on the way to the post office & the library, we saw lots of neat things along the way. And THANKFULLY, I had my camera AND batteries! :) Here is proof!

Some Neat Thanksgiving Links

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 20th, 2008

Here is an interesting link for your listening pleasure! If MY children sit still to listen, yours will too! :) The story of Baby Snooks had them laughing out loud.

Here is an interesting link for those of you that do lapbooks. ((We’re just now learning about them! They look FUN!))

This Weekend…

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 18th, 2008

Boy am I ever behind! I wanted to post about our weekend & forgot to! Geesh…Anyhow, the housing office here on base (privatized now) had a hayride on Sat. There was 2 bonfires, hot chocolate, cider, hotdogs to cook over the fire (or grilled for those less brave) & roasted marshmallows…with fixin’s for ’smores! Oh, we rode on a flatbed trailer with bales of straw to sit on, pulled by a tractor…not quite the way I remember  it as a kid, but none the less, we had a blast! :)

Here are some photos from the event!

God bless…

School Project!

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 18th, 2008

The kids & I found these strange nut like things on our way back from the bank yesterday. I had hoped to get to draw them while it was light outside, (as I believe it’s best to do artwork in natural light, in my humble opinion, anyway!) but we’ve been so busy both yesterday & today that we’re going to have to make do with artificial light tonigh. Unless, of course, we postpone it AGAIN! :?

Anyhow, these are the photos of the “mystery” nuts / seeds. After drawing them, then disecting & re-drawing them, they have to identify them! :) Sounds like a trip to the library is in our future…:) ((It’s cheating to use the web ALL the time!:) ))

Wind & Weather…

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 14th, 2008

Yesterday we had some really strange weather. The day started out bright & sunny, though cold. It was a nice change from the 2 weeks of constant rain & dark clouds! :)

THIS time, when we ventured outside, I actually remembered my camera. It’s amazing what you discover when you DON’T have it! Grrr! (NOTE TO SELF: always have extra batteries with you!))

The sky went through some amazing changes…& while I did get some nice shots, my batteries died before I was able to get photos of the amazing full moon last night! :(

By evening, on our return from  a CWOC meeting, the weather had really changed. The winds had picked up & the temperature had dropped considerably! I don’t even know if it reached the 50 degrees it was supposed to…but it sure was chilly by evening! I’m thinking snow isn’t too far off. But then again, what do “I” know? :P

Here are some photos I took yesterday. Hope to get even more today.

Daily Drawing Project

Here are the kids doing their daily drawing project. ((I / We belong to the Daily Drawing Yahoo Group!))

Today’s challenge is: Loch Ness Monster

I will post more photos later on of their “finished” drawings. For now, here’s what they’ve done thus far!

Veteran’s Day…

Posted by mommaf8 on Nov 12th, 2008

We as a nation honor the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Those fallen heros & those that are still with us. We honor their memory & thank them for all they’ve done and continue to do!

God bless America!
